Shop Update–Some Spring Colors

Last weekend was supposed to be our open studio, but alas we had lots of snow instead!

I’ve been dyeing up lots of new colorways. First up is some new Zephyrette colors. Our zephyrette is a light sport weight blend of baby alpaca (cria), cashmere and silk. It is OH SO lovely!!

I’ve also been adding to the colorways of Sparkly!! And let’s face it, we all need to have a little sparkly in our lives!!

And finally, since we weren’t open this weekend, here is my special yarn that was inspired by Peonies, which are my favorite flower. It is dyed on our Chinook base which is Superwash Merino, cashmere and nylon.

Some new variations for Strisce shawl

This is a simple shawl…the color of the yarn does all the work. It is mostly garter stitch with some lace near the bottom. It is an asymmetrical triangle shape. I’ve added 3 new variations. Check them out! Kit comes with pattern and 4 skeins of Zephyrette yarn. Zephyrette is our baby alpaca, silk and cashmere blend that’s a light sport weight.

Diamond and Cables Scarf in Bluebell Colorway

The borders are knit first and one is set aside on scrap yarn while the other is used to make the rest of the scarf. When you get to the end of the scarf you merely knit the scarf and 2nd border together. And Voila! You have a beautiful, elegant scarf.

FO Friday Cowl Edition

Pile o’ Cowls

Here is a pile of my finished cowls. I have knit all of these over the past couple of years. I love cowls. Have I told you that before? I love them because you put them off and they never fall off. They never unwind. They don’t drag on the floor. They are just perfect accessories in my opinion. All but one of these is my own design as well. The zephyrette cowl patterns are available here.

Do you like to wear cowls? Reply to this blog and let me know.

holiday knitting? Too Late?

Is it too late to start knitting for Christmas? Maybe, but maybe not. How can you figure that out? Well let’s do some math…it’s simple math.

  • How long can you knit each day? For me, it’s realistic to say that I could knit 1 hour a day for at least 6 days a week. That’s 6hours a week.
  • How long until the holidays or when I have to mail presents? There are 6 weeks until christmas and hannukah week. So that is 36 hours of knitting.
  • And so how long would a project typically take? Well that depends, right. So we have to think strategically. Use a bigger yarn and bigger needles or a smaller project like hat, cowl, mitts.  I know that I can knit a fingerless mitt in about 2 hours. And so that is 4 hours for a pair.  I could probably do a hat in that time as well. And I’ve timed myself on my Lacy Cowl made with luxurious Zephyrette and I know that takes me about 3 hours of knitting. So let’s go with 4 hours.  I could make 9 projects in the time left.  9?!?!?!

But is that reasonable? I’ve already told you all that I am the world’s slowest knitter. But still I could conceivably get some presents knit for some very special people.

Need some ideas? Well a Zephyrette cowl makes a very luxurious gift with very little knitting time. The Lacy cowl below took me 2-3 hours of TV knitting to complete. The other cowls will take slightly longer. The yarn is so soft and warm and beautiful that it is a pleasure to knit and it will be a treasured gift for that knitworthy friend or relative. Pick a skein of Zephyrette and let me know what pattern you are interested in and we’ll get you started on this gift.

new pattern and kit for Zephyrette

This cowl is knit in the round using the Linen Stitch. Using this stitch has been on my wish list for years. Why? Because I started out as a weaver and this stitch not only appears to be woven but it is also knit as an “over/under” pattern.  By knitting in the round, you never have to purl. It is merely a knit stitch and a slipped stitch, over and over again. Because an odd number of stitches is cast on, you can continue to go round and round. I really got into a rhythm and it became a meditative kind of process. Kit includes yarn and pattern, just add needles and get ready to have fun relaxing.

autumn colorways for preorder

Is it too early to think about rich fall colors? It is still summer really. But, I know it’s not too early for me! I’ve been working really hard to make special colorways for all the fall fiber festivals.  I was going to keep it under wraps until the shows, but that didn’t seem good enough. I thought that I should make these great colorways available to you too, whether you are going to one of those shows or not, because maybe you don’t live near any one of them or have vacation time this year.

The Autumn collection above is available in our Corrie Sock base and also in the Zephyrette base.  It features deep rich fall colors. These are colorways that will add interest to any garment, whether you want to make socks, put these into a beautiful shawl or if you just need to add some to your collection.  You can find the Corrie Sock collection here and the zephyrette collection here. Here how will it work? You can order up to Sept 15th. I will dye these specially for you and send them out no later than Sept 26th. Jump to the web store and get some of these for your collection.
