A Truly Special Yarn
I LOVE my Alto yarn. It is a commercial yarn. It is 55% superwash BFL wool and 45% bombyx silk. It is highly lustrous and it is has great drape. What is BFL wool? It’s wool from Blue Faced Leicester sheep. It is a long, lustrous wool. You have the luster from the silk and the luster from the silk.
Because it is superwash wool, it is also great for a next-to-the-skin garment. Superwash wools have the fibers stripped of the parts that cause prickliness.
What can you make with this yarn? Well you can make a sweater or top. You can make a wonderful scarf or shawl. You could make a baby layette too, one that’s really special like a christening outfit.
Here are the deets: 260 yards per skein, DK weight yarn, $32 per skein
new shawl using Alto DK yarn
Kira Wharton just published a new pattern using our Alto DK yarn. It’s called Verdant Pines and is available on Ravelry here. It is a really ample shawl that has great drape and luster. This yarn is a blend of Blue Faced Leicester wool and silk. You can wear this with a dress or jeans.
Sweater Inspiration
Have you started your Rhinebeck sweater yet? If not, think about using this wonderful yarn for your next sweater. It is our Alto. The yarn is DK weight and is a blend of superwash BFL wool and silk. It is very shiny and it has a wonderful drape. You can find it in our webstore.
This sweater was knit with Alto in the Lightning colorway. It was designed by Corrine Walcher of Gingyknits. It is great to wear. It is so soft and has a great drape-y hand. There is a cabled lace on the side seams and down the sleeves. The pattern is available here on Ravelry. It is called The Land of Silver Birch.
