Fibershed Wool and Mohair Spinning Fiber
Price range: $25.00 through $35.00
What is a Fibershed roving? They are grown locally, processed locally and if dyed, dyed with locally sourced natural dyes. You can say these spinning fibers have a much lower carbon footprint. They haven't been sent all over the world to be made. They also aren't made with any petroleum products. They are completely compostable. When you have worn them and worn them out, you can put them in your compost pile and they will return nitrogen and carbon to the soil. It's the soil to soil idea. From the soil came the food for the animals. They grew the fiber and then when you and your family are done with that garment, you can return it to the soil.
Also these rovings will be spun into very special yarns that once used you will want to keep and pass down the garments through the generations. You will want to take care of them. You will want to make timeless garments from them. A beautiful cable sweater, a lustrous shawl to wear on special occasions.
My fibershed rovings are the natural color. They haven't been dyed. They are made from fleeces that were brown, white, charcoal or black. They were cleaned and made into top at the most local mill to us that had the specialized equipment to make combed top. Unfortunately that was in Michigan. The reality is there are very few mills left in our area or in the United States really. These are as Fibershed as we can get them.
