As much as I'm proud of my farm yarn line, I also wanted to offer superwash yarns and some very special commercially made yarn. This is my “work horse” yarn. It is a fingering weight yarn that has great drape and also strength.It is perfect for shawls, tops, and socks. Let your creativity loose with this yarn.
What is superwash? Well the fiber is put through a process that removes or covers the scales on the individual wool fibers. It used to be done with high heat and pressure. Today the fibers are covered with some kind of proprietary polymer. When I went on a mill tour, the company would not say it was a plastic material, only that it was a polymer.
What is so special about superwash? Well first, since the scales are covered, this yarn does not cause a lot of itchiness. And secondly, you can machine wash and dry the garments without experiencing felting. I would caution you though, it is still best to handwash this kind of yarn. Thirdly, this yarn is great for baby or child items, because it can be washed more easily.
