About Us

Welcome to Flying Goat Farm, a small family-run farm nestled on 25 acres in Frederick, Maryland.

Creating is at the core of who I am.

My love for working with thread and cloth began in childhood, with my earliest memories rooted in crafting as a Girl Scout. As I grew older, my passion evolved—I wanted to make my own cloth, so I learned to weave. In 1990, I discovered dyeing, realizing that to create the cloth of my dreams, I needed to have control over the colors and materials. Since then, I’ve embraced spinning, knitting, and teaching others to explore their own creativity with textiles, yarn, and fiber.

Dyeing is my daily joy, a practice that lets me blend colors harmoniously, create eye-catching combinations, and inspire fellow makers. I love capturing photographs as a source of inspiration for new colorways—it’s a doubly creative and deeply satisfying process. My mission is to help fiber enthusiasts choose colors that bring their beautiful projects to life.

Name Goes Here

Our journey brought me from California to Oregon and, finally, to Maryland. Twenty one years ago, we settled here and decided to raise angora goats, not only for their spinnable fiber but also because they are, quite simply, the cutest of all fiber animals. Several years later, we expanded our fiber offerings with fine wool sheep, allowing us to produce our own farm yarn. Whether you’re looking for a soft, squishy worsted yarn for a cozy blanket or a more rustic wool for a warm, durable sweater, we have the perfect yarn for your project.

We’re also building a line of Fibershed-certified yarns, meaning they’re grown, processed, spun, and dyed within 150 miles of our farm, including naturally dyed options. With our commitment to sustainability, our farm is mostly solar-
powered, making our yarns a great choice for those looking to reduce their carbon footprint.

While we no longer have our own sheep and goats, we still have plenty of yarn and fiber from them that you will find here online or in person at a fiber festival or when you come to visit.

Until we meet in person or virtually, Happy Making!
